I use skiff.io as an alternative to google docs/sheets, and already has wallet integration, and hosts on the IPFS
Loved this overview, wonder if decentralized file storage will overcome the current benefits of centralization, not even including the actual internet infrastructure.
I think storage is actually one of the best use cases for decentralization. If the market matures the main IPFS nodes will be in tier one data centers anyway. Best of all worlds.
Glad the music and recording industries have finally learned how to monetize the Internet so there's less hysteria e.g. trying to ban all decentralized services at the ISP / protocol level or introduce aggressive new legislation.
Thank you for the write up. I have a question regarding SYN. Do you think it's worth it to sell right now to save from future losses or do you think I should hold?
The market is crap, so alts are seeing a lot of pain. I talk to Caesar frequently and they're still building cool shit. But in this market no matter what they release, token price won't reflect the quality of their product. Prices down are not a SYN-specific issue IMO
> Blockspace on Ethereum is scarce and highly demanded, making it highly expensive and therefore unsuitable for image data storage.
For what it's worth, onchain data isn't exactly stored in blockspace. Blockspace is what goes up in price when there is more instantaneous demand for transactions to be mined.
Technically correct. Probably could have written that more precisely, was trying to link in reader's minds the cost of gas vs cost of storage i.e. why use one of the most expensive place to store files.

favorite article yet - really interesting, exciting part of this space. and something that actually has practical value *today*
Thank you very much
Great article! How does the latency / access speed of IPFS hosted sites compare to regular cloud/server hosted sites?
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Siacoin's Skynet HomeScreen,( decentralised frontend solution)
We covered this very briefly on a BTB post
https://bowtiedbull.substack.com/p/part-22-short-series-security-needed?s=r
I also created another solution to protocol frontend attacks, may publish it once its in use at a few DAOs
Does decentralized file storage have implications regarding availability as well?
